I knew what a photograph could hold
before I knew how to take one.
My father had a camera. I don't remember what model — I just remember looking through it and understanding, even then, that some moments were worth keeping. My grandmother's face. My brothers laughing. My mother in the kitchen on a Sunday morning. I didn't know it yet, but I was already learning to see.
My first student job, I spent everything on a camera. That was the beginning. Then came Europe — the architecture, the light, the history of places that hold stories in their stone. I traveled slowly, looking for something I couldn't name yet.
I found it in France. And I found her — the woman I would marry, in Versailles, in this country that felt immediately like somewhere I was supposed to be. We studied together. We danced together. We built something here.
Now we have a child. And I understand weddings differently than most photographers — not as an assignment, but as a day that changes everything. The kind of day that deserves someone who already knows what it means to choose a life, and to mean it.

Je savais ce qu'une photo pouvait contenir
avant de savoir en prendre une.
Mon père avait un appareil photo. Je ne me souviens pas du modèle — je me souviens juste d'avoir regardé à travers lui et compris, déjà, que certains instants méritaient d'être gardés. Le visage de ma grand-mère. Mes frères qui riaient. Ma mère dans la cuisine un dimanche matin. Je ne le savais pas encore, mais j'apprenais déjà à voir.
Mon premier job étudiant — j'ai tout dépensé dans un appareil. C'était le début. Puis l'Europe — l'architecture, la lumière, l'histoire des lieux qui portent des récits dans leur pierre. J'ai voyagé lentement, cherchant quelque chose que je ne savais pas encore nommer.
Je l'ai trouvé en France. Et je l'ai trouvée — la femme que j'allais épouser, à Versailles, dans ce pays qui m'a semblé immédiatement être un endroit où j'étais censé être. On a fait nos études ensemble. On a dansé ensemble. On a construit quelque chose ici.
Aujourd'hui, on a un enfant. Et je comprends les mariages différemment de la plupart des photographes — pas comme une mission, mais comme une journée qui change tout. Le genre de journée qui mérite quelqu'un qui sait déjà ce que ça veut dire de choisir une vie, et de le penser vraiment.
